Legends and myths
The decoration style of the antiquity is emphasized by the Minoan “poppy goddess”, the statuette of Demeter, where her hair is decorated with poppy heads on the steams. The goddess Mekona, patroness of agriculture, the goddess of inexhaustible fertility, to whom nature’s harmony is subordinated. The image of Demeter in Ukrainian paganism is personified by a living goddess of life and fertility.
According to Ukrainian tradition, poppy is considered a powerful talisman against unclean forces. In the ancient times, unmarried girls weaved poppies with stems into their hair, in the manner of a ribbon, so that the braid, which was a symbol of girlish innocence and purity of the young girls, would not unravel. Obviously, the ripe fruit meant that the girl was ready for marriage and birth. With the help of the poppy, they guessed and believed that it protects from evil spells.

Mankind began to mine and process copper in the Stone Age. In those days, the metal was smelted from malachite ore. Copper is also smelted from sulfide ores, but sometimes is found in nuggets.
